Easy hard disk installation with the matching carrier for your server hard drive

Hard drive trays, often referred to as caddies or carriers, are an important component of servers and storage systems. As hard drives are sensitive to vibration and can have their lifespan reduced by external factors, it is important to use caddies that are suitable for the storage medium and the device to ensure secure mounting of the disk in the drive cage of the chassis. Compatibility with the system is one of the key factors in choosing the proper tray, as servers from various manufacturers such as HPE, Dell, Lenovo and Fujitsu often require specific caddies for hard drive installation, depending on the model and generation.

Hard drive carriers and converters for different form factors

Another important consideration is the form factor of the drive. For both 2.5" SFF (Small Form Factor) and 3.5" LFF (Large Form Factor) hard disks, there are suitable trays that can be used for different server configurations. If it is necessary to use SFF disks in LFF caddies, converters and adapters are often available as accessories, further increasing the flexibility of the storage configuration. Standardised form factors mean that most carriers can accommodate any type of hard drive, whether HDD (hard disk drive) or SSD (solid state drive), depending on the storage configuration requirements.

Fast disk replacement with hot-swap carriers

Depending on the system's RAID controller and backplane board, hard disks can be connected using different connection standards. Screwing the drive into the tray ensures that the SATA, SAS or NVMe connector is correctly aligned and a stable connection to the server can be established. Hard disks can be quickly and easily installed in the drive cage bays, and the hard drive caddy's locking mechanism ensures a secure, vibration-free connection. This means that even if a hard drive fails, it can be replaced immediately, often while the server is running, thanks to the hot-swap or hot-plug support that is often available. To display the operating status or possible malfunction of a hard drive, various carriers are also equipped with LED indicators that can be used to check the status of the drive.
