Best server performance through DDR5 memory with advanced chip technology

The amount and speed of RAM (Random Access Memory) are key factors in the application performance of server systems. To meet the ever-increasing demands of complex IT infrastructures, new generations of servers from manufacturers such as HPE, Dell, Lenovo and Fujitsu typically support the latest hardware standards. As the successor to the widely used DDR4 RAM standard, DDR5 RAM offers a significant performance boost for compatible server solutions.

Higher memory speeds and increased memory bandwidth

Compared to the previous generation, DDR5 memory achieves significantly higher memory speeds, improving application performance for memory-intensive workloads. Doubling the memory bandwidth over DDR4 enables faster data processing. DDR5 memory modules are available in a range of specifications and speeds, including DDR5-4800 and DDR5-5600.

Higher capacity memory modules

By using advanced chip technology, DDR5 memory modules can achieve higher capacities, allowing for more flexibility in server memory setups and higher memory configurations. In addition, a smaller number of memory modules can be used to achieve the required main memory besides maximum configurations.

Improved energy efficiency

The reduced power requirements of DDR5 memory compared to DDR4 RAM, achieved through lower power consumption per memory chip, contributes to the improved energy efficiency of newer server generations. Combined with increasing system performance, the DDR5 memory standard therefore meets important requirements of modern IT environments.

For which servers is DDR5 memory the best choice?

To take advantage of fast and efficient DDR5 memory, both the motherboard's chipset and the server's processors must support the modern standard. AMD EPYC CPUs (central processing unit) and Intel Xeon Scalable processors, for example, support the fast memory standard from the fourth generation onwards. As with previous generations, DDR5 RAM is not backward compatible and therefore cannot be installed in a server with DDR4 DIMM slots (dual in-line memory module). Please refer to the server manufacturer's technical documentation for details of supported memory standards and speeds to avoid compatibility issues with memory upgrades.
