HPE ProLiant DL360 - The powerful server all-rounder

The ProLiant DL360 from HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) is a versatile server solution for businesses of all sizes and industries to efficiently and reliably handle a wide range of workloads. These include less complex file and print services as well as demanding virtualisation or database applications. The slim 19" 1U chassis makes the most of the space available in the rack to provide the computing power, connectivity and storage required. With server management being an important part of today's IT infrastructure, the iLO (Integrated Lights-Out) features support for a range of tools to optimise server monitoring and diagnostics, simplifying administration and ensuring reliable operation. In addition, failure safety and reliability are supported by optional redundant components such as power supplies and chassis fans to deliver consistently high performance without interruption, even in demanding scenarios.

Processors and memory for the HPE ProLiant DL360

The ProLiant DL360 server's motherboard can accommodate Intel Xeon CPUs (central processing units) in two processor sockets, which, when combined with memory, enable high application performance. The server generations support different processor series and DDR RAM standards (Random Access Memory) of different performance classes, which can be a decisive factor in the selection of suitable servers depending on the requirements of the application. The proven ECC standard (Error Correcting Code) to reduce memory errors and a high number of DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) slots allow for extensive memory expansion, making the server suitable for memory intensive applications.

Versatile storage options in the compact chassis of the HPE ProLiant DL360

The HPE ProLiant DL360 also offers a wide range of storage configuration options with a variety of chassis options and drive cages to accommodate both 3.5" LFF (Large Form Factor) and 2.5" SFF (Small Form Factor) hard disks with the appropriate trays. Depending on the server generation, both traditional HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) and faster SSDs (Solid State Drives) are supported for customised storage solutions.

In simpler configurations, the drives can be managed by the embedded storage controller, but for more complex requirements, the systems also support optionally available dedicated RAID controllers (Redundant Array of Independent Disks). Depending on the configuration, common transfer protocols such as SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment), SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) and NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) are supported.

Expansion options to customise the HPE ProLiant DL360 server

To adapt the servers to specific environments and workloads, the systems also feature PCIe slots (PCI Express) that allow for expansion with additional network cards, controllers, or graphic cards. With expansion cards in the PCIe riser, configurations can be created for almost any application, making efficient use of IT budgets while delivering the performance and features required. Depending on the server generation, the devices offer different standards for PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 expansion cards, which should be taken into account when selecting suitable servers for different applications.

Overview of HPE ProLiant DL360 server generations

Like all HPE ProLiant DL series servers, the DL360 models are regularly updated to new technical standards. As a result, there are several generations of used servers available, which differ primarily in terms of components compatibility and therefore performance. When selecting a used server, the manufacturer's technical documentation on supported hardware should be carefully consulted if existing parts are to be reused.
